Taiwan visa types
There are two main types of visa which are visitor visa and resident visa
Visitor visa (Short-stay visa)
This visa is issued for international visitors wishing to stay in Taiwan within 90 days. You will apply for this visa if your purpose of the stay falls into the following categories:
- Tourism purpose
- Social visit
- Business meeting
- Conference and social events attendance
- Medical treatment
The validity of this kind of visa ranges from 3 months to 1 year.
Resident visa (Long-stay visa)
This sort of visa is applied to foreigners planning to stay in Taiwan for over 90 days. This is the list of some popular types of Taiwan resident visa.
Work visa
You will apply for this visa in this regard if you have a job offer in Taiwan. There are three specific types of visas:
- Taiwan work permit
- Taiwan work visa
- Taiwan residence permit
The validity of this Taiwan visa is 1 year.
Student visa
This visa is issued for international students wishing to pursue further education in institutions in Taiwan.
Family reunification visa
This visa is granted for family members who have Taiwanese residents and want to stay in Taiwan.
Entrepreneur visa
You will need to lodge this visa application if you are an entrepreneur wishing to set up a business in Taiwan.
Working holiday visa
This type of visa is suitable for young people who want to work and explore life in Taiwan. However, only young people (18 to 30 years old) from the following countries are eligible:
Digital nomad visa
You can apply for this visa if you are working remotely from Taiwan.
Taiwan visa requirements
General visa requirements
These are some required general documents to submit when you apply for Taiwan visa.ย
- A duly printed and completed application form.
- Two recently taken photos on the white background.
- Biographic documents including birth certificate.
- A valid passport which does not exceed 10 years.
- A return ticket or flight booking proof.
- Documents showing your sufficient finance such as bank statements, payroll or bank balance.
- Confirmed accommodation documents.
- A declaration letter of your purpose for the stay.
- Civil status proofs to justify.
If you don’t meet one of the above criteria, your Taiwan visa has a high chance of being rejected.
Additional documents
Apart from the aforementioned documents, there are some additional factors based on the purpose of the visit.
Employed
- The work contract.
- A letter of invitation issued by your company to indicate your position, duration of occupation as well as the monthly salary.
- Bank statement which lasts at least 6 months.
- Bank slips.
- Income tax return.
Student
- The enrollment letter from the chosen institution.
- The original and copied Health Certificate issued by the Centers for Disease Control of the Ministry of Health and Welfare of Taiwan or the home hospitals which is valid within at least 3 months.
Minor
- His/ her birth certificate
- The legal parents or guardiansโ copies of ID cards.
- A letter of authorization from his/ her legal guardians.
- The presence of both the parents (in case of a required interview). In case one is absent, a proof of reason such as death or custody is required.
How to apply for Taiwan visa?
Step#1: Be prepared
Choose a reasonable time to apply for a visa. You will prepare a Taiwan visa application, including information: visa duration, purpose of stay, visa type and nearest Taiwan embassy or consulate destination to apply.
Step#2: Fill out visa application form
You will complete the application form and gather the necessary documents which are tailored for your type of visa.
Step#3: Pay visa fee
The visa fee hinges on the type of visa and the place you apply for.
In case of applying at a Taiwan Diplomatic Mission Overseas:
- The fee for single-entry visitor visa is US$50
- The fee for multiple-entry visitor visa is US$100
- The fee for single-entry resident visa is US$66
- The fee for multiple-entry resident visa is US$132
In case of applying in Taiwan:
- Single-entry visitor visa costs NT$1,600
- Multiple-entry visitor visa costs NT$3,200
- Single-entry resident visa costs NT$2,200
- Multiple-entry resident visa costs NT$4,400
Step#4: Book an appointment
You need to book a visa appointment with your application destination.
Step#5: Attend the visa interview
You will send your prepared documents to the application site and participate in the visa interview. This will be the step that confirms your purpose and determines whether you will be accepted or rejected.
Step#6: Obtain the visa
Once being accepted, you will be notified by the agency and a Taiwan visa would be accompanied by your passport.
